Materials and Sourcing

What materials are used in your products?

We use the softest alpaca and sheep wool, lovingly grown by our own furry friends right here on the farm! A touch of cotton embroidery adds a delightful detail (though we're exploring some exciting new options with hemp!).

Where do you source your materials?

Our alpaca and sheep provide all the incredible wool, and the cotton thread came with a vintage loom we're lucky to have. We're always looking for ways to be even more sustainable, so we're exploring alpaca-hemp blends to replace the cotton in the future!

What are the environmental impacts of the materials and production processes you use?

We're deeply committed to caring for our planet. We compost all the alpaca and sheep manure to nourish our gardens and greenhouse. Nothing goes to waste – we even use the fiber scraps for garden mulch, insulation, and comfy stuffing for our meditation cushions! Rainwater is our main source for felting and washing, and when that runs low, we haul water from town (we're hoping for more rain soon!). We reuse that water for our gardens and compost, too. It's a hands-on, earth-friendly approach! Our solar panels power everything we do, and we reuse our felting materials as much as possible. We do use plastic gloves to protect our hands during the felting process, which can be tough on the skin. And for soap, we choose gentle, eco-friendly options like Oasis Grey Water Soap and castile soap.from town. We also use the waste water a 2nd time to water the garden, fruit trees and compost piles. We don’t have a fancy system, we do it all by hand. And we harvest solar so everything we use is powered by the sun. But i do use plastic pool cover to create waterproof surfaces & felting resists.  I use the pool cover over & over again with no need to throw it away. We wear food worker plastic gloves when were felting to protect our hands. Felting can be really hard on your hands drying them out from all the soap & friction. For soap we use Oasis Grey Water Soap or a castile soap.

Production and Labor

Who makes your products?

Our small team pours love into every creation! Nicole does the felting and finishing touches, while Dave cards the wool and creates the pre-felt. We're also excited to share that our daughter Tatum is learning the art of pouch-making, and we hope she'll soon be crafting from her own home studio!

What are the working conditions like for the people who make your products?

We believe in a balanced and joyful approach to work. Our studio can get a bit messy (wool flies everywhere!), but the atmosphere is always positive. We prioritize taking care of our animals, enjoying our daily yoga practice, and nourishing ourselves with good food. If those things start to slip, we know it's time to slow down and recenter.

Sustainability and Environmental Impact

How do you minimize your environmental footprint as a brand?

We're mindful of every step in our process and strive to keep things local. By minimizing outsourcing and using natural resources responsibly, we aim to tread lightly on the earth.

What steps do you take to reduce waste and pollution?

We compost all animal waste, use every bit of fiber, and rely on rainwater whenever possible. We even give our water a second life by reusing it for our gardens!

Do you have any sustainability initiatives or certifications?

We're always learning and growing in our sustainability journey! While we don't have any official certifications yet, we're committed to ethical and eco-conscious practices.

Quality and Durability

How well-made are your products? Will they last?

Absolutely! We create high-quality felt that's made to last for years with proper care. You can cherish your Sacred Alpaca pieces for a long time to come.

How do I care for the products to ensure their longevity?

A little TLC goes a long way! Spot cleaning is often enough, but if needed, you can gently hand wash your items with a natural soap in cool water. Rinse well, gently squeeze out excess water in a towel (no twisting!), and reshape or lay flat to dry.

Do you offer repairs or alterations?

We're happy to offer free repairs to keep your cherished pieces in top condition. Just reach out to us!

Price and Value

Why are your products more expensive than mass-produced alternatives?

Our creations are truly one-of-a-kind, made with love, intention, and the finest alpaca wool. We have a limited supply of fiber and dedicate countless hours to each piece, from hand-felting to adding those special finishing touches. It's a slow and mindful process that results in truly unique and enduring treasures.

What is the value proposition of buying from your sustainable brand?

When you choose Sacred Alpaca, you're not just buying a product; you're joining a story. A story of alpaca lovingly raised on our farm, wool transformed into soulful creations, and a deep respect for the earth. Our pieces are designed for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and a connection to something truly special.

Transparency and Authenticity

How transparent are you about your supply chain and production practices?

We believe in open and honest communication. We're happy to share details about our process while also protecting the unique techniques that make our creations special.

How can I be sure your brand is truly sustainable and not just “greenwashing”?

We welcome your questions! Feel free to ask us anything about our practices, and we'll gladly share insights into our sustainable approach. Since we do everything in-house, we can provide genuine answers and show you how it's all done.
